REVIEW – I’ve spent quite a bit of time in the out-of-doors, and the one thing that can take the enjoyment out of it is having cold feet. Design and features
Cold feet can ruin an otherwise pleasant day out in the cold weather. I often spent hours at a time, just sitting and waiting to photograph wildlife. It doesn’t take long when you’re sitting still for your feet to become cold; regardless of how warm your boots are, the heat will eventually drain out of them.
The MECO Heated socks solve this problem by providing up to 24 hours of warmth to your feet. With three heating modes:
|Mode||Temp||Run Time||LED Color|
A charge time of 5 to 6 hours means that you can recharge them overnight. Pressing the power button for three seconds turns them on, and a short press on the power button changes the power level. After turning them on, the socks will enter the rapid heating mode and switch to medium mode automatically if you don’t change the power level manually.
The socks heat rapidly, reaching temperature in about 1 minute. The battery is equipped with over-current, over-voltage, and over-voltage protection. The socks can be washed, although MECO recommends hand washing and hanging to dry due to the wiring and heating elements in the socks.
The power level LED is in the power switch and can be seen through the battery pouch flap, which means that you can easily see and change the power level without unsnapping the battery pouch flap. The battery level indicator LED’s can also be seen through the flap, but not quite as easily as they are smaller.
Although MECO states that the large size “Fits 7.5-10 USA,” I wear a size 12 US shoe, and these socks fit nicely. When pulled on snugly, the battery was about 7 inches from the floor. If you have boots that are taller than that, you may need to leave them a little looser at the top than usual.
The heating area is about 2×3 inches on the sole, at the toe end of the sock. This small area is enough to heat your toes, and by extension, the rest of your foot as well.
I was hoping to put these through some deep snow testing, but we haven’t received any snow yet this year. I did however put them through a good test with 36-degree F and heavy winds down at the beach. My feet stayed warm and happy!
What I like
- Quality stitching
- Quick heating time
- Long battery life
- Battery indicator LED’s
What I’d change
- Larger sizes would be nice
I found the MECO heated socks to be a valuable part of my outdoor experience. Being able to stay out longer, and being comfortable while doing it, is so nice. I wish I would have had these a few years ago! I actually don’t hesitate to go out in the cold anymore!
