We’re closing in on the tenth anniversary of League of Legends, and Riot Games has announced a massive player count milestone. The MOBA is regularly reaching 8 million concurrent players at daily peaks, which makes it one of the biggest games in the world – and perhaps the biggest PC title currently out there.
“Every day we see about 8 million peak concurrent players in League,” Riot says in its announcement. That number covers LoL players across all Riot, Tencent, and Garena regions, and specifically accounts for the month of August – so if you though League was slowing down a decade after launch, it seems that’s not the case.
Riot says this is “bigger than the top ten games on Steam combined,” and while that kind of statement seems like hyperbole, it’s actually an extreme lowball. The daily peaks for Steam’s current top ten games total around 2.2 million users, and while Steam’s overall user count peaks at around 15 million daily, only about 4 million players in total are in-game on any given day, as SteamDB shows.
