Bungie is changing the way it’s providing Destiny 2, and with Google Stadia set to launch in the near future and cross-saving promised for the Steam version, players are wondering whether PC and Stadia players will be able to join games together. The answer, it turns out, is ‘not at first.’

In a Q&A posted to its official site, Bungie explained that cross-play between PC, consoles, and Stadia won’t be available when Shadowkeep and New Light launch later this year. “Stadia is its own ecosystem, just like current existing platforms,” the company wrote. “Stadia players will only be able to play with other Stadia players.”

But that won’t necessarily be a permanent situation, and cross-play across all platforms is still a possibility. After several sites reported on the Q&A, Destiny general manager Mark Noseworthy took to Twitter to clarify Bungie’s stance on cross-play.

“We’ve already mentioned that we’d love to bring cross play to Destiny 2,” he wrote. “There’s no policy or technological barrier preventing us from including Stadia. We’ve be looking to include every platform.”
